THE Sunshine Coast International Readers and Writers Festival is well underway in planning an exciting and diverse program for its second annual festival at Coolum on August 12 and 13.
Festival founder and director Wendy O’Hanlon said the festival would this year feature international guests from Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Europe and Canada as well as national and regional creatives.
“And we are excited to announce that this year we are launching two major inaugural events as part of our two-day August festival – the Sunshine Coast Slam Poetry Championships with the winner attending the State finals, and the first Sunshine Coast Short Story Competition,” Ms O’Hanlon said.
“Our international festival has now made its mark after a successful three-day September launch last year and has attracted international and national attention from major publishers and writers.
“We are also in social-media promotional partnership with Asia’s biggest writers’ festival, the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, which has a reach of more than 30,000 – many of whom are Australian subscribers,” she said. “The Ubud festival’s founder and director Janet DeNeefe officially opened our festival last year and we have developed a close festival bond.
“The festival features authors, poets, songwriters, musicians, publishers, illustrators, comic book writers, indigenous writers, storytellers, environmentalists and surfing writers – it provides a platform to connect and open minds,” Ms O’Hanlon said. “And we have welcomed some exciting professionals on to our committee this year to help stage this exciting event.
“I also urge all Australian writers to support our festival by liking and sharing our Facebook page and subscribing to our regular newsletter through our website and following us on Instagram and Twitter.
